John Pine’s re-engravings of charts 9 and 10 (Dover to Sandwich and Blacknerse to Gravelines) from Expeditionis Hispanorum in Angliam by Robert Adams 1588, originally engraved by Augustine Ryther. Chart IX shows the deployment of the English fire-ships; chart X can be summed up by Pine’s description : ” The Spaniards make the best of their way for the Northern seas; and are in the meantime very much battered by the English..”.
