Some small separations to fold joins. Clean 3in. tear, virtually invisible, into top of NW sheet not affecting detail.

Derived from a view in Holinshed’s Chronicles c.1574. A little marginal discolouration and some small abrasions to the early paintwork – nonetheless a good example.

Gerhard ( Gerardus or Gerard ) Mercator ( 1512-1594 ). Mathematician, geographer, cartographer, engraver and publisher. Generally thought of as one of the two most important map makers ever and the first to use the word ‘ atlas ‘ to decribe a bound sequence of maps. A fine impression on thick paper. Uncoloured examples are unusual.
